Dear professors,
I have received your letter. For decades, you have diligently dedicated yourselves to the cultivation of foreign language talents for the Party and the nation. Even in your advanced years, your hearts remain devoted to this career, which demonstrates a sense of responsibility as teachers. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Beijing Foreign Studies University, I extend my sincere greetings to all of you, as well as to the faculty, students, and staff of the entire university.
It requires a large number of foreign language talents to deepen exchanges between China and other countries, promote international friendship, build a community with a shared future for humanity, and effectively voice China’s opinions. I hope that you will continue to play a mentoring role, actively promoting the inheritance of the revolutionary spirit at Beijing Foreign Studies University, enhancing the quality of education, and striving to cultivate a greater number of well-rounded individuals who possess a strong sense of patriotism, a global perspective, and professional expertise. 新华社北京4月21日电 4月21日，国家主席习近平向在上海“世界会客厅”举办的“中国式现代化与世界”蓝厅论坛致贺信。
习近平指出，实现现代化是近代以来中国人民的不懈追求，也是世界各国人民的共同追求。一个国家走向现代化，既要遵循现代化的一般规律，更要符合本国实际、具有本国特色。中国共产党团结带领全国各族人民，经过长期艰辛探索找到了符合中国国情的发展道路，正在以中国式现代化全面推进强国建设、民族复兴。中方愿同各国一道，努力以中国式现代化新成就为世界发展提供新机遇，为人类探索现代化道路和更好社会制度提供新助力，推动构建人类命运共同体。
“中国式现代化与世界”蓝厅论坛由中国公共外交协会、中国人民外交学会和上海市人民政府共同主办，近80国政府、智库、媒体代表参加。
Xi sends congratulatory message to Lanting Forum on Chinese Modernization and the World
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday sent a congratulatory message to the Lanting Forum on Chinese Modernization and the World held at the Meet-the-World Lounge in Shanghai.
In the message, Xi pointed out that realizing modernization is a relentless pursuit of the Chinese people since modern times began, and it is also the common aspiration of people of all countries. "In pursuing modernization, a country needs to follow certain general patterns. More importantly, it should proceed from its own realities and develop its own features," said Xi.
After a long and arduous quest, the Communist Party of China has led the entire Chinese nation in finding a development path that suits China's conditions, Xi said. "We are now building a strong country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization."
Xi said China will provide new opportunities for global development with new accomplishments in Chinese modernization, lend new impetus to humanity's search for paths toward modernization and better social systems, and work with all countries to advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Lanting Forum on Chinese Modernization and the World was organized by the China Public Diplomacy Association and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, and was supported by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Representatives of governments, think tanks and the media from nearly 80 countries participated in the Forum.

中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平近日就研究生教育工作作出重要指示指出，中国特色社会主义进入新时代，即将在决胜全面建成小康社会、决战脱贫攻坚的基础上迈向建设社会主义现代化国家新征程，党和国家事业发展迫切需要培养造就大批德才兼备的高层次人才。
习近平强调，研究生教育在培养创新人才、提高创新能力、服务经济社会发展、推进国家治理体系和治理能力现代化方面具有重要作用。各级党委和政府要高度重视研究生教育，推动研究生教育适应党和国家事业发展需要，坚持“四为”方针，瞄准科技前沿和关键领域，深入推进学科专业调整，提升导师队伍水平，完善人才培养体系，加快培养国家急需的高层次人才，为坚持和发展中国特色社会主义、实现中华民族伟大复兴的中国梦作出贡献。
中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理李克强作出批示指出，研究生教育肩负着高层次人才培养和创新创造的重要使命，是国家发展、社会进步的重要基石。改革开放以来，我国研究生教育实现了历史性跨越，培养了一批又一批优秀人才， 为党和国家事业发展作出了突出贡献。要坚持以习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想为指导，认真贯彻党中央、国务院决策部署，面向国家经济社会发展主战场、人民群众需求和世界科技发展等最前沿，培养适应多领域需要的人才。深化研究生培养模式改革，进一步优化考试招生制度、学科课程设置，促进科教融合和产教融合，加强国际合作，着力增强研究生实践能力、创新能力，为建设社会主义现代化强国提供更坚实的人才支撑。
全国研究生教育会议2020年7月29日在北京召开。中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理孙春兰出席会议并讲话。她表示，要深入学习贯彻习近平总书记关于研究生教育的重要指示精神，全面贯彻党的教育方针，落实立德树人根本任务，以提升研究生教育质量为核心，深化改革创新，推动内涵发展。把研究作为衡量研究生素质的基本指标，优化学科专业布局，注重分类培养、开放合作，培养具有研究和创新能力的高层次人才。加强导师队伍建设，针对不同学位类型完善教育评价体系，严格质量管理、校风学风，引导研究生教育高质量发展。
会议以视频会议形式召开。北京大学、清华大学、华中科技大学、西安电子科技大学和江苏省负责同志在会上作了交流发言。

Xi underscores cultivating more high-level talent with integrity, ability
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for greater efforts to cultivate a large number of high-level talent with both integrity and ability to meet the development need of the Party and the country.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the requirement in an instruction on the country's graduate education.
Xi said high-level talent are urgently needed, as socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and a new course of building a modern socialist country is unfolding on the basis of securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and winning the battle against poverty.
Xi also stressed the important role of graduate education in boosting innovation, catering for economic and social development, as well as modernizing the system and capacity for governance in China.
Party committees and governments at all levels were asked to focus on improving graduate education to cultivate more high-level talent urgently needed by the country, so as to contribute to upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics, and realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Premier Li Keqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also made an instruction saying graduate education bears the task of boosting innovation and creation and serves as a cornerstone of China's development and social progress.
Li called for efforts to implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to cultivate talent adaptable to multiple fields, with the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
A national conference on graduate education was held via video link on Wednesday. Vice Premier Sun Chunlan attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
