Course Description
Regional studies is one of the most interesting and important arenas for politics and economy in the world today. The course focuses on concepts and theories of states and nations, and applies them to the study of politics, development, society and culture, and foreign policy ofthe United States, Europe, and South East Asian countries. The course will cover key questions, arguments, and debates in the study, as conceptualized against the backdrop of a framework rooted in comparative politics, comparative historical sociology and international relations. The key themes to be addressed include the U.S. politics and government, Sino-U.S. relations, Europe Union, politics and society of Southeast Asia countries, and debates on the opportunities and challenges brought up by China’s rise in the region.
